Renovation and Expansion of the Historic Thorpe Lodge: Transforming a Landmark into Art Studios and Exhibition Areas for Holland Park School.

Dating back to 1816, Thorpe Lodge stands as a testament to historical elegance and significance. Throughout its storied past, it has housed notable figures including renowned portrait artist Henry Tamworth Wells and Montagu Norman, the esteemed Governor of the Bank of England. In 1956, Thorpe Lodge became an integral part of Holland Park School, yet over time, its role as a functional teaching space waned.

Today, we embark on a journey to breathe new life into this Grade II-listed treasure. Our mission? To meticulously restore and expand Thorpe Lodge, reinventing it as vibrant art studios and dynamic exhibition spaces tailored to the evolving needs of Holland Park School and the artistic community at large. Join us as we honour its rich heritage while embracing the future of education and creativity.

Comfort to Match Its Historic Grandeur

At Thorpe Lodge, we undertook a comprehensive mechanical installation project that aligned seamlessly with the site’s rich legacy. Our meticulous approach encompassed the installation of a new plant room, LTHW heating systems, domestic services, public health services, and cutting-edge AHU & ventilation systems. Additionally, we implemented state-of-the-art BMS Controls to ensure optimal performance and efficiency across all mechanical elements.

Our commitment to excellence and attention to detail were paramount throughout every phase of the project. By seamlessly integrating modern mechanical solutions into the historic fabric of Thorpe Lodge, we not only enhanced its functionality but also preserved its timeless charm. Discover how our innovative approach has transformed Thorpe Lodge into a pinnacle of both heritage and modernity.

Project highlights

One of the standout features of our project at Thorpe Lodge was the restoration of an old glass skylight nestled within the main corridor atrium. To ensure optimal functionality while honouring the site’s historical integrity, we devised a unique solution. Our team installed LTHW heating pipework strategically looping around the rooflight, leaving it exposed as un-insulated copper piping.

This innovative approach served a dual purpose: not only did it provide efficient heating throughout the space, but it also acted as a heating coil, effectively preventing condensation build up on the glass skylight. By seamlessly blending modern heating technology with the architectural heritage of Thorpe Lodge, we achieved both practical functionality and aesthetic preservation. Explore how our innovative solutions breathe new life into historic spaces while maintaining their timeless allure.
